Everybody is their own brand of crazy and I’m crazy because I still believe in the soulmate job, that ikigai, THE job. There has to be a place like that, it’s a matter of statistics to eventually run into it. I would LOVE to find something like that and am willing to make an effort looking for it. That said, I’m not going to spend my life waiting for it so I will need to prepare to sell my soul (just a little) to hold me over till I find that myth, that legend, that corporate folklore called: dream job.
I also want to change up my way of getting to my grand goal: feel more free, faster. Meaning that if I can help it, I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket by dedicating myself to just one job full-time anymore. I already tried this approach over the past decade and it didn’t help me reach my goal so I will do something different and you should too.
That brings me to my two pronged approach:
- Dream job search
- Practical job(s) search
- Full time jobs that I could tolerate for a few years at a time without killing myself –> this job should help me have benefits, decent healthcare, and also not take up too much of my time and energy
- Part time gigs that I could dabble in while I do the tolerable full time job –> this will allow me to supplement my day job but also let me set up a second life as a freelancer/consultant of sorts so I never, ever, ever have to rely on a FT job fully. e.g. getting laid off won’t have the same sting if I have a second resume of sorts to keep the piggy bank from emptying out faster than a Best Buy on a Black Friday. This option could also end up being my main moneymaker if I ever wanted to turn full digital nomad one day.
- There is a 3rd option under this category… one that I will NOT be pursuing because I’m not mentally built for it.. but you might be: sell your soul to a super high paying, soul sucking organization. Generally this option will not allow you the time, energy, or creative juice to do anything on the side but cry yourself to sleep. But if you’re willing and able, it might pay you enough to save up a significant chunk of $$ to get to your savings goal faster. I’ve tried this option before and it has not worked for me so I will not be spending time giving pointers for it, BUT if you’re made of steel and don’t mind being a little dead inside then feel free to pursue it! And let the rest of us know how you get there in the comments below!
So you ready for a life do-over with that dream job? Buckle up b*tches coz it’s gonna be a bumpy ride with a one way ticket to fab-city!
